Tongue Tie/Lip Tie

Tongue Tie/Lip Tie

Tongue tie, Ankyloglossia, Restricted Lingual Frenum, Lip Tie, Buccal / Cheek Tie, Tethered Oral Tissue (TOTS) all can mean the same thing - there is a string of tissue that is restricting movement and impacting function in the body.

Signs and symptoms of a tongue tie include but are not limited to reflux, aero digestive issues, sleep apnea, feeding difficulties, torticollis, speech issues, TMJ, posture changes, and orthodontic issues to name a few. When there is tightness in the head and neck this may lead to pain and compensation for all ages.

It takes a team of professionals to provide the right pre- and post operative intervention. This could include chiropractors, craniosacral therapists, physical therapists, speech pathologists / certified orofacial myologists, occupational therapists, lactation specialists, dentists, orthodontist, ENT, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

At MPTC our team of speech pathologists, certified orofacial myologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists work closely with the families to assess the function of feeding, breathing, speaking, vision, and posture. We work on the functional aspects that are impacted by a tongue tie.
We all work with infants from 2 weeks of age who have difficulty nursing through young adults. Some team members even work with adults.

Our team of therapists have years of experience working with infants through adults, have taken many post graduate trainings on tongue/lip tie and functional difficulties related to tongue tie. We are confident that we can help your family navigate through the weeds of tethered oral tissue.
