Social Communication Therapy That Celebrates Neurodiversity

Empowering authentic connection through evidence-based, relationship-focused support

At MPTC, we believe every individual communicates in their own unique way. Our social communication therapy is designed to support children and teens in building meaningful, authentic relationships—while honoring their neurodivergent identities.

🧠 Whether your child is autistic, has ADHD, or experiences differences in social learning, we provide strength-based, neurodiversity-affirming support that respects their communication style and values their autonomy.

What is Social Communication Therapy?

Social communication includes how we initiate interactions, read cues, take turns in conversation, and build connections. Challenges in this area can make it harder for neurodivergent children to connect in ways that feel natural or fulfilling to them—but it doesn’t mean something is “wrong.”

We don’t teach “normal” or “typical” behavior. We support self-awareness, self-advocacy, and social connection in ways that feel safe, respectful, and empowering for each individual.

Evidence-Based, Relationship-Centered Approaches

We use child-centered, proven frameworks like:

✨ DIR®/Floortime

This developmental model focuses on meeting your child at their current level of communication and emotional regulation. Through play, movement, and real connection, we support them in expanding their capacity to engage, relate, and think flexibly.

🧩 Customized social learning

We incorporate tools based on current research and responsive teaching methods to support your child’s goals—whether that’s understanding boundaries, navigating group dynamics, or expressing themselves confidently.

Examples of what therapy might include:

  • Collaborative games and role play
  • Emotion coaching and self-regulation tools
  • Practicing problem-solving in peer interactions
  • Supporting social self-advocacy (e.g., saying “no,” asking for space, or joining a group)
  • Exploring identity, preferences, and strengths

đź‘« Offered 1:1 and in Group Settings

  • 1:1 therapy provides individualized support, co-regulation, and trust-building between your child and their therapist.
  • Small groups (when available) offer a safe, supported space to explore peer interaction without pressure to “fit in”—encouraging shared joy, curiosity, and respectful communication.
