Pediatric Pelvic Floor Therapy
Pediatric Pelvic Floor Therapy in Minnetonka & Plymouth, MN
Pediatric pelvic floor therapy at MPTC is a specialized area of occupational therapy that helps children develop healthy bladder, bowel, and toileting habits while supporting the muscles and body systems involved in these important daily activities.
Our pediatric occupational therapist works with children who experience challenges such as urinary incontinence, constipation, encopresis, difficulty with toilet training, or fear of using the toilet. Therapy may also address body awareness, posture, breathing, core strength, sensory processing, and coordination that can influence bladder and bowel function.
Treatment is individualized and provided through a play-based approach. Depending on your child’s needs, therapy may include education for your child and caregivers, toileting routines, positioning strategies, breathing and relaxation techniques, strengthening and coordination activities, and strategies to improve awareness of bladder and bowel signals.
The goal of pediatric pelvic floor therapy is to help children feel more confident and independent with toileting and participate more comfortably in everyday activities at home, school, and in the community. Our occupational therapist at MPTC works closely with families and, when appropriate, other members of the child’s healthcare team to support the child’s overall development and well-being.
