Fluency/Stuttering Therapy
Fluency Therapy That Supports Confident, Authentic Communication
Empowering people who stutter through connection, self-advocacy, and evidence-based care
At MPTC, we believe that stuttering is a natural part of human diversity, not something to “fix” or erase. Our fluency therapy supports children, teens, and adults who stutter in building communication confidence, self-acceptance, and functional communication skills—on their terms.
We take a neurodiversity-affirming approach, honoring each individual’s voice and empowering them to communicate authentically without pressure to “speak fluently” at all times.
🗣️ What is Fluency Therapy?
Fluency therapy supports individuals who stutter (or have other fluency differences) in exploring their communication in ways that feel safe, supported, and effective. While traditional models often focus on “fixing” speech, we focus on building confidence, communication tools, and resilience—not eliminating stuttering.
Evidence-Based, Compassionate Approaches We Use:
✨ The Comprehensive Stuttering Program (CSP) and Fluency Shaping Techniques
Used with consent and collaboration, these techniques can offer tools for those who want more ease or control during specific speaking situations—always without pressure to suppress stuttering.
❤️ Stuttering Acceptance & Identity Work
We support individuals in reframing internalized stigma, exploring their communication identity, and connecting with affirming narratives around stuttering.
🧩 Family and school support
For younger clients, we provide coaching for caregivers and teachers to create affirming environments that celebrate communication in all its forms.
We Focus On:
- Reducing communication anxiety and avoidance
- Supporting self-advocacy (e.g., disclosing stuttering, asking for time to speak)
- Strengthening communication confidence—not just fluency
- Fostering pride and community around stuttering
Let’s support your child in building confidence with their communication. Contact us today to learn more or schedule an initial evaluation with one of MPTC’s speech-language pathologists!
