Speech Therapy
Articulation
therapy - Disorders of articulation, or
speech sound production, can be the result of the
following:
- Delayed speech development
- Phonological disorders (a language difficulty
that affects how one learns and organizes their
speech sounds into a linguistic system.
Phonological disorders impact reading and writing
abilities.)
- Developmental apraxia of speech (a motor speech
disorder characterized by putting sounds and
syllables together to form words)
- Reduced oral motor function (weakened muscle
tone that inhibits the ability to precisely
articulate speech sounds)
Therapists at MPTC utilize a
variety of special therapy techniques to achieve
articulation goals. These techniques may include but
are not limited to the following: oral motor
exercises, physical prompting for restructuring oral
muscular phonetic targets, sound discrimination, and
increasing phonological awareness skills.
