Music Therapy

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a qualified professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. The music therapy groups at Minnetonka Pediatric Therapy Center are co-facilitated by a licensed music therapist and speech-language pathologist. Goals of our groups include increasing vocalizations, following directions, improving flexibility and routines, social interactions, imitation, and gross and fine motor improvement. Sessions involve dancing, singing, listening, and playing a variety of instruments. Music therapy has been found to be beneficial for children with developmental/cognitive delays, pervasive developmental delays, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down syndrome, and children who have suffered traumatic brain injuries.
